Sad news for the Wilson family
H W Wilson Ltd have had some sad news this weekend, Peter Wilson, Director of the company for many years passed away on Sunday morning.
One of three siblings, Peter trained as a quantity surveyor and was the only child to follow his father Harry in to the family business. He worked for the company for 38 years and succeeded Harry in becoming the third generation ‘Wilson’ to be Managing Director. He saw the company through some of its most difficult times, especially the recession of the late eighties and early nineties, that saw so many other construction companies fall by the wayside.
During his time with the company he suffered 3 bouts of recurring cancer which he successfully beat while maintaining a hand on the tiller of the business. Having appointed his two work colleagues Peter Beckett and Peter Wiffen to directors of the company, the three Peters kept the ship steady until it was time for his retirement in 2000.
Unfortunately more ill health was to follow Peter, and it was decided to sell the company to his two long term work friends in 2005. A decision that was not taken lightly by the Wilson family, who wanted to ensure the business remained a part of the South Ockendon community the way their Father had meant it to be some 75 years before!
Peter's retirement took him to his beloved holiday home in Lydd on Sea, Kent. Where in earlier days he was part of the Romney- Hythe- Dymchurch steam railway society. Over the past 5 years his illness took hold and he had spent the last 3 weeks in hospital at Ashford.
All at H W Wilson past and present wish to pass on their condolences to the Wilson family, and we will let old friends and colleagues know of any arrangements once we are made aware of them.
